Here are some images shot several months ago of my Grandfathers HO layout. He also prefers the hand laid look. (Now you know where I get it from.) I have learned all my railroading knowledge and techniques from him as he is a master railroader craftsman.
This is main town on the layout called Cedar Valley.
Here is a photo of Cedar Valley’s future roundhouse and engine facilities location.
This is Greystone, one of the two mainline towns serviced from Cedar Valley.

Here are a few more images showing the spline work, and roadbed of the main town on the branch line. The yard on the right is almost done with the exception of the turnouts. The mainline, sidings and reversing tracks on the left are well underway at this point in trackwork. You may have noticed that I prefer the hand laid look and performance. Once all the tracks and ties are weathered the look is amazingly real and if done properly will also provide years of flawless operation. I will do some posts in the near future of my track laying techniques.

I have been working on and off on my layout for a few years now with progress each year passing. I have a complete blue print (which I will post soon) of my fictitious layout which is modeled in the steam and first generation diesel era. The layout models an industrial and manufacturing branch line off of the main line. I will be focusing on some logging and milling operations plus a variety of other industries all to serve the towns and businesses of the branch line or to be exported through the main line.
A full operating schedule will be in place one day as this layout has been designed around the prototypical operation of a small branch line railroad. The room is approximately 11 x 11 foot square with a 9 foot staging room. I am finally posting some images of the layout and will continually update the progress.
The first batch of images were taken a few years ago during the first winter of construction. They include the 6 track staging yard and the first manufacturing town on the branch line.
