Workbench

I have been assembling and painting more kits as of late than working on the actual layout as my available time has been limited. Sometimes I can only spend a hour or two so I have been working on the buildings and detail parts for Gainesville in the hopes of completing it this winter. I am working on the Heritage Furniture build which is the largest of the background buildings in this town. I have painted all the parts and details and will be starting assembly and weathering soon. Maybe after this project I will clean the bench off as project after project has been done leaving a lot of tools and junk to be put away. But as one great blogger once said, “An empty bench is the sign of an empty mind..”

Here are some images of the hardware store building I have been assembling an painting. I have done this one as a sample as I have not done any model work in a number of year. If I messed up, its not big deal. I have to build several buildings for the layout and I don’t want to mess them up. Take a look and I would love some feedback as to make the weathering better. Keep in mind that it is not placed anywhere special so the surrounding are not detailed.

For the last little while I have been completing more track work up the branch line so again not a whole lot happening on the workbench. I have been assembling a few Roundhouse passenger cars that I purchased a couple months back. All that is needed on them are the couplers which I will install the next chance I get and they will be ready to go to work on the railroad. I will post a nice image when that happens.

This is were I will post images on occassion showing what projects I have on the go. Right now I don’t have much happening on the workbench as I have been working on alot of wiring and layout construction. I have been cutting some ties with my miniture chop saw and installing some kaydee couplers on a few engines I recently purchased. I hope to be assembling some buildings soon and will update once that project begins.

Where do you get the ‘lumber’ for your ties?

Thanks for your comment. My grandfather and I purchase clear pine and use a plaining blade on his table saw. This blade allows for a clean cut with a lot less waste than a carbide blade would create.

Thanks again and happy railroading.

Great looking model you have there.

Thanks for the great comment. I will be posting a blog with the Furniture building installed with smokestack and the completion of Gainesville shortly. More buildings and other model will come out of their boxes in due time.

Thanks again
